Welcome to Nicole Mackey, Writer

Here you will find stories of my life-long battle with mental illness and ways you can still have an abundant life in spite of it all.  You’ll also find fiction featuring characters dealing with everything from post-partum depression to drug addiction. Stories are my passion. They communicate truth in a way few things can.

Each week I  post an article or a book review or sometimes a sneak peek into my latest work in progress.  If you’d like to be updated when new articles are posted, you can sign up in that fancy box to your right.

A writer, speaker and mental health advocate,  I am also something of a gypsy.  I have spent most of my life moving around the country, from Michigan to Florida to Maine and now Phoenix, AZ.  I even spent a year living in a tent.   Now that was an adventure!

My mind wanders as often as I do, so I tend to write in a variety of genres, with fantasy being my preferred medium.

When I am not writing, I like to knit, crochet, bake and color.  Yes, color, as in coloring books. (It’s great for your mental health).   I love to explore the world around me, both inside and out.  A walk through the botanical gardens or a trip to the museum will be sure to put a smile on my face.

Most days, you can find me at home, computer on my lap and a far away look in my eye.

Here is one of my most popular articles and one of my favorite short stories.

How Prayer Almost Killed Me

I hope you’ll come back and see me often!

I love feedback!  Please feel free to comment.
